The CEILING Function in Excel is an important mathematical tool that can be used to round numbers to a specified multiple.

For example, a user can enter a number and the function will round it to the nearest integer, nearest tenth, nearest hundredth, etc. depending on the user’s specified multiple.

It can also be used to round numbers up or down to the nearest multiple. For example, a user can specify that a number should be rounded up to the nearest multiple of 5. This is especially useful when working with large numbers or data analytics tasks.

=CEILING(number, significance)

number: The number you want to round up.

significance: The multiple to which you want to round a number.

How to use CEILING function MS Excel in your workbook:

  1. Open your Excel spreadsheet and identify the data that you wish to use for the ceiling function.

  3. Enter the following formula in the selected cell: =CEILING(number, significance).
  4. Replace the “number” part of the formula with the cell containing the data that you wish to use for the function.
  5. Replace the “significance” part of the formula with the smallest integer that you want your result to be rounded to. For example, if you wish to round to the nearest 10, enter 10 in the formula.
  6. Press Enter to calculate the result of the function. The result should appear in the selected cell.
